In 2006, my friend David Hathaway and I attended the World Sport Kite Championships, he as a spectator / reporter for Kitelife and myself as a judge… In between the WSKC competitions, European Rev teams and fliers we doing mega flies with anywhere from 12-20 pilots and we were all over it, experiencing Rev team flying for the first time… Under the superb leadership of Stephen Hoath (Flying Squad) and Ben (FLIC), we learned a whole lot about Rev team formations and calling techniques.

After that, David and I returned to our regular tour of Northwest competitions along with Todd Rudolph who was also just starting to get a handle on Rev flying…First up was the Cutting Edge Spring Fling in Ocean Shores, WA.

Messing around with really simple team maneuvers, we fully caught the bug and agreed that we would be a team as of that day… But who to recruit for our fourth pilot?

Well, turns out it would be already well known dual line pilot Egan Davis from David’s neck of the woods in Vancouver, BC… He literally hung out behind David, Todd and I for pretty much all of Friday before the competition started and clearly intrigued, he went home and practiced A LOT, enough to actually come out and join us at the following event.

As of this post, it’s been just a tad more than 4-1/2 years since the first three members of iQuad were stumbling through their first Rev team maneuvers without any assistance… Nearly (or a little more than) 100 events and thousands of miles later, we couldn’t have made a better leap with lots of memories, countless good friends, and even more importantly – a strong family.
